The connecting head is for the abutment. There is a two-way-activated striding forwarding cylinder hinged to a support unit, and a piston-rod with a hinge for the head and plate movable with it. They are incorporated in a device for alternately advancing units of a travelling long-face support system and striding abutment working with this, in a mine. The slide plate is located near the ends of the guideways on the connecting-head side. The rocker swings from the plate's flat setting on the shield skid into a steep plate setting ahead of the leading skid edge below the device. This precludes incorrect abutment and/or skid guidance resulting from dusting material collecting on the skid front edges.
