The invention is concerned with a transport apparatus for picking up, transporting and depositing bricks or brick mouldings (1) onto a jigging platform. For this purpose, the transport apparatus has one or more suction plates (2) which are movable over a predetermined transport path and which are connected to a vacuum generator (6), there being interposed shut-off valves (3) and at least one common suction conduit (4) with branches (5) leading to the suction plates (2). The vacuum generator (6) is connected directly to the suction conduit (4) and works continuously in order to generate a constant vacuum in the suction conduit. Moreover, a ventilating device (7) having an actuating device (8) is inserted into the suction conduit (4) common to all the suction plates (2). The shut-off valves (3) assigned to the suction plates (2) are designed as automatic stroke switches, each with a valve tappet (9) projecting above the set-down surface of the respective suction plate (2) and having a valve-closing body (10) which is pressed onto its valve seat (11) under a spring effect counter to the suction effect and which, when the suction plate (2) is set down onto the brick moulding (1) to be picked up, lifts off from its valve seat (11) counter to a spring effect as a result of the pressing back of the valve tappet (9). The suction effect between the suction surface and the brick moulding (1) is thereby established. <IMAGE>
