A reversing edging stand for rolling rails with the aid of an adjoining universal roll stand. The roll stand has adjustable rolls (7, 8, Fig. 3) enclosing a single aperture which has oblique surfaces (10, 11) at the ends to stabilise the incoming rail-like intermediate sections (6). To ensure the symmetry of the web cross-section, the aperture surfaces (12) assigned to the web of the section are designed so that they at least touch the surfaces of the web during each edging pass. In order to ensure adequate filling of the aperture in the area of the head of the intermediate sections using just one edging (dummy) aperture for all the edging passes while avoiding acute angles, the surfaces of the aperture on the head side have a radiused contour (13, 14) which corresponds approximately to the shape of the side faces of the finished rail head. <IMAGE>
