PURPOSE:To provide an alcohol detecting element which is suitable for prevention of the occurrence of a malfunction of a detector for gas such as H2, CH4, by producing a sintering substance containing effective components of MgO, Cr2O3, and ZrO2 in a mol ratio satisfying a given relation formula. CONSTITUTION:MgO, Cr2O3, and ZrO2 or that which prepares them is used as a starting material, a final composition statisfies a relation shown by a formula, where MM is a mol ratio of MgO, MC is a mol ratio of Cr2O3, and MZ is a mol ratio of XrO2, and the mixture of the starting materials, which are mixed so that they are brought to MC=MM, is press-molded into a columnar shape wherein two platinum wires are embedded. The molded substance, placed in a heat resisting receptacle, is burned in air at about 1,000 deg.C using an electric furnace to obtain an alcohol element. The element is assembled into an alcohol detecting element such that a platinum electrode is welded to a terminal stand provided with a heater and is covered with a stainless explosion resisting net. This obtains an element which is high-sensitive to alcohol and low-sensitive to gas. |
