PURPOSE:To improve pickup resistance by limiting the range of coarseness and forming the tip of minute projections round. CONSTITUTION:After forming a ceramic thermal spray film on the surface of a metallic roll by gas explosion thermal spray process or plasma thermal spray process, the roll is passed through processes of polishing and shot blasting, and coarseness of roll surface is adjusted. In the surface profile at this stage, projections are sharp and can not be used as roll for cold rolling parocess as there is a problem of pickup. From this condition, the tip of projections is formed round by abrasive made of resin, and average coarseness is adjusted to the range of 1.0-2.5mum.
