The invention relates to a protective device for the ends of pipes to be joined to one another, in particular earth field pipes, whose end faces are constructed with an annular welding bevel and an annular web. In order to guarantee a reliable protection of the pipe end, in particular of the web in the case of pipes with a welding bevel and web, also during the handling of such pipes with the aid of hooks hooked into the pipe end, the protective device has a cylindrical part with or without a bottom, which part can be inserted inside the pipe and has a first annular flange which covers the end face of the pipe and is adjoined by a second annular flange which grips over the outside of the pipe end. The cylindrical part or the cylindrical part and the first annular flange is or are constructed so as to be reinforced at least in the region of the transition from the cylindrical part to the first annular flange or in the region of the annular web to be protected. To improve the protective effect, an angle profile is provided which is bent to form an open ring, whose one limb rests against the inside of the cylindrical part which can be inserted inside the pipe and whose other leg rests against the outside of the first annular flange.
