The current collector for electrically-propelled vehicles with overhead line supply is equipped with an automatically acting device for fast lowering which is triggered as soon as parts of the pantograph are deflected by an inadmissibly large force acting parallel to the travel wire. As a result, control signals are generated which bring about, by means of activation units, the fast lowering by uncoupling the lifting drive or sudden pressure reduction in pneumatic or hydraulic lifting drives. The device for fast lowering is automatically reset.
