PURPOSE:To simplify the change of a communication control program and the raise of the version number by transmitting and receiving data to and from a line by a communication part based on the received communication control program. CONSTITUTION:When the power source of a document communication part (CCU) 16 is turned on, an ESC code is transmitted from the CCU 16 to a docu ment processing part (WPU) 24. The WPU 24 reads out the communication control program stored in a hard disk (HD) 12 or a floppy disk (FD) 10 and transmits it to the CCU 16 through a communication control unit interface (CCUI) 15. The CCU 16 transmits and receives the data to and from the line through a MODEM NCU (network controller) 15 based on the received communi cation control program. By this constitution, the change of the communication control program, the raise of the version number, etc., are simplified.
