The complex is a salt of formula (CH3SCH2CH(NH2)COO(-) Zn(++))wX (I), in which X is an anion which does not interfere with the effective increase in absorption, distribution and utilisation of zinc and methionine, and W is a whole number equal to the charge on anion X. It is made by (a) dissolving methionine and a zinc cpd. in equimolar amts. in water at pH 7; and (b) heating the soln. at 90-95 deg.C for 1 hour.
