PURPOSE:To remove the oxide film on the surface of a steel strip and to improve the adhesiveness of chromate and paint in a line for executing painting and baking after surface prepn., cleaning, drying and chromate treatment by executing brushing using an alkali liquid prior to the surface prepn. CONSTITUTION:The steel strip 10 is first introduced into a brushing stage 20a, where the alkali soln. is injected from injection nozzles 31 provided respectively on; for example, the front and rear surfaces of the steel strip 10, to the boundary between brushing rolls 32 and the steel strip 10 toward the transportation direction of the steel strip 10. The brushing mechanism consists of the brushing rolls 32 and back up rolls 33. The rolls 32 brush the plated surfaces of the steel strip 10 to the extend of not flawing the surfaces and remove the oxide films cooperatively with the alkali soln. NaOH, NaCO3, sodium phosphate, etc., are adequate as the alkali soln. The steel strip 10 is subjected to warm rinsing 20b after the stage 20a and is subjected to the surface prepn. 21, rinsing 22, warm rinsing 23, drying 24, chromate treatment 25, drying 26, painting 27, and baking 28; thereafter, the steel strip is transported to the outside.
