PURPOSE:To improve the roller life and to uniformize the surface quality of a product steel sheet by forming ruggedness on a roller surface by high energy density beams and further roughening the surface by a mechanical means and then forming ruggedness having a specific flatness ratio by electrolytic etching and chrome plating. CONSTITUTION:A roller surface ground to be Rmax of <7.0mum is worked with high energy density beams to regularly form ruggedness having Rmax of >=7.0mum. Further, the surface is roughened by a mechanical means to form fine flaws. Then, the entire roller surface is provided with ultrafine ruggedness by electrolytic etching. After that, regular ruggedness having a flatness ratio F' of 0.20-0.90 is formed by chrome plating. The flatness ratio is expressed by F'=A'/(A'+B'); where, A' is an area where the max. peak-to-valley height, Rmax is <7.0mum, B' is an area where Rmax is >=7.0mum. By use of such roller for rolling, excellent workability and brightness are concurrently given to steel sheets. |
