PURPOSE:To obtain a LED lighting unit capable of fabrication at low cost and suitable for various use, by installing a LED on the indented bottom of a metallic insulating substrate provided with a multitude of dents, and forming the side wall of each of the dents as a reflecting face. CONSTITUTION:A 3-layer material plate made of an Al substrate, an electrical insulating layer and an Al layer is employed, and the Al layer is patterned to provided an electrode 15 and a lead 16, then some portions are plated for connection, then drawing is carried out at a dent 11. The side wall 14 of the dent is brightly plated, then each LED 2 is installed on the bottom of the dent, then an electrode 22 on the reverse side of the LED 2 is connected to an electrode pattern 15 by means of a conductive adhesive. Its surface-electrode 21 is connected to the adjacent electrode pattern 15 by means of a wire 5 and the LED 2 nearest to a lead 16 is connected thereto via resistance. The whole surface of the substrate 1 is covered with epoxy resin if needed. The lens panel 3 of the epoxy resin has a convex lens 31 right above the LED 2 to enhance its luminance. This arrangement makes possible mass production of low-costed lighting units suitable for the stop lights of automobiles. |
