PURPOSE:To obtain the subject composition firmly adsorbable to various fibers and imparting excellent drapeability to the fiber by reacting cellulose, cellulose ether, etc., with a quaternarizing agent, dissolving the resultant water-insoluble quaternary nitrogen-containing cellulose derivative in an organic solvent and dispersing the solution in water. CONSTITUTION:A water-insoluble quaternary nitrogen-containing cellulose derivative is produced by reacting (A) cellulose, a cellulose ether (e.g. an ether having hydroxyethyl group) or a cellulose ester with (B) a quaternarizing agent comprising a 2,3-epoxypropyltrialkyl ammonium compound or a quaternary halohydrin compound expressed by formula I or formula II (R<1>, R<2> and R<3> are 1-12C alkyl which may form a heterocyclic group including nitrogen in the formula; Y is halogen; X is univalent anion). The derivative is dissolved in an organic solvent, e.g. a polar solvent such as acetone or acetonitrile and the solution is dispersed in water to obtain the objective domestic paste composition. The composition is firmly adsorbable to polyester fiber as well as cellulosic fiber and gives excellent drapeability and flexural rigidity. |
