PURPOSE:To accurately and easily measure the saturation level of an image pickup element by replacing the measurement of the proportional relation between the intensity of incident light and the output of the CCD image pickup element with the measurement of the proportional relation between two outputs of the image pickup element where a filters is so arranged that output levels are different. CONSTITUTION:The filter 11 of complementary color checkered lattices is arranged on the CCD image pickup element 2 and the quantity of transmitted light of this filter 11 is different in the colors of the filter. Consequently, two color signal levels S1 and S2 outputted from a color separating circuit 6 are different. For the purpose, the quantity of light is varied by an iris 10 and then while one color signal is saturated above specific lightness, the other is not saturated at the lightness. Then while the iris 10 is adjusted, a waveform is observed while the two levels S1 and S2 are regarded as the X and Y axes of an oscilloscope 5, and then linearity is not maintained from a specific point. Consequently, the saturation level of the CCD image pickup element 2 can be measured. |
