PURPOSE: To obtain a metal carrier without defective joining even when the thickness of a foil is lessened by bringing an electrode into contact with a flat foil on the outer peripheral surface of a honeycomb body that is being formed and partially resistance-welding the flat foil and a corrugated foil. CONSTITUTION: In a method where a flat foil 2 and a corrugated foil in which the flat foil 2 is corrugated to form are wound about a take-up axis 4 to form a honeycomb body 1, an electrode 5 is brought into contact with the flat foil 2 on the outer peripheral surface of the honeycomb body 1 that is being formed, and the flat foil 2 and the corrugated foil 3 are partially resistance-welded. In this way, since the contact surface pressure of the flat foil 2 and the corrugated foil 3 is kept high from the central part of the honeycomb body 1 to the outer peripheral surface thereof, the problem of defective joining is solved. Particularly, a thin foil honeycomb body <40μm thick is stably produced. By adopting the thin foil honeycomb body, waste gas cleaning capacity is improved because the carrier is rapidly heated to a temperature at which a catalyst acts. |
