METHOD FOR THERMAL CROSSTALK CONTROL ON OPTICAL MEDIA

A method for reducing lateral heat transfer which relies upon the combination of the geometry molded into the preformat and the angular sensitivity of ion milling. The reflector layer (16, 38) is etched so that the reflective layer is preferentially removed on the sidewalls of the magnetooptic recording medium as shown in figure 7B. Other layers, including the recording layer can be deposited after the ion milling or alternatively the etching may take place when the reflective layer is the outermost layer. The reflective layer may be Al, Au, Ag or the like.
