PURPOSE: A pickup actuator is provided to prevent erroneous operation of an optical recording/reproducing apparatus and to make an objective reach a target place more quickly by attenuating vibration from a lens holder rapidly. CONSTITUTION: A pickup actuator comprises a pair of yokes, a pair of magnets, a lens holder, a driving coil and a magnetism fluid. The pair of yokes(20,20') are installed on a top of a base member(10) and are spaced apart, and the pair of magnets(30,30') are attached at inner sides of the yokes, respectively. An objective(42) is loaded on the lens holder(40), which is hung by a wire spring so as to be able to move in focusing and tracking direction between both sides of the magnets. The driving coil(50) is installed at the lens holder, and drives the lens holder in the focusing and tracking direction by an interaction with the magnets. The magnetism fluid(70) is applied between the magnets and the lens holder, and damps vibration from the lens holder when driving the lens holder.
