PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery and an electrothermal relay for a battery capable of promptly sensing abnormal temperature rise inside a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery, surely interrupting or short circuit discharging a troubled battery to prevent ignition/explosion, improved in usability. SOLUTION: In a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery, a safety device 20 is disposed on the port sealing part of a battery can 10. The safety device 20 has a temperature sensitive bar 22 for transferring the heat inside the battery and a terminal switching circuit of a thermally active shape memory alloy 23. When the battery temperature rises abnormally, a troubled battery is cut off from a battery pack serially connected with a plurality of batteries whereby the shape memory alloy 23 is deformed, a moving switch 21 released is moved, currents of internal electrode terminals 8 and 9 are interrupted to short circuit between positive and negative electrode external terminals 16 and 17. The nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery can be attained by which the temperature inside the battery is promptly sensed, the current-conducting path of the battery is surely interrupted so as to improve safety and usability. |
