PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To attain ease of use of facsimile equipment by variably controlling an execution permission rate of other software processing, on the basis of discrimination information as to whether or not a modem function is software- processed so as to prevent the communication performance from deteriorating. SOLUTION: A hybrid circuit 3 separates a signal of a transmission system from a signal from a reception system, transmits a transmission signal from a 2nd relay 7 to a telephone line 1a via a network control unit(NCU) 1, receives a signal from an opposite party via the NCU 1, and transmits it to a hardware modem card 5 via a signal line 3a. A control circuit 4 variably controls an execution permission rate of other software processing depending on information denoting whether or not facsimile equipment having a capability of software processing onto a modem function. Furthermore, the control circuit 4 applies variable control to the execution permission rate of the other software processing on the basis of a transmission rate of modulation and demodulation executed at present in a plurality of steps. In this case, the control circuit 4 applies no variable control to a processing time itself decided by the hardware.
