PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase data reading speed by controlling a sense amplifier and a selector using a single control signal. SOLUTION: The sense amplifier 12 of a cash memory is provided with a selector section 12b, controlled by control signals C1, C2 which control the operation of a sense amplifier section 12a. When reading data, the high-level control signal C1 is outputted, and pairs of data lines which do not read data are separated from the sense amplifier section 12a by means of the selector section 12b. Then, data are outputted to data lines D, /D from memory cells S which is selected by a word driver 8. When a potential difference between nodes a, b of the sense amplifier section 12a becomes large enough for amplification, the high-level control signal C2 is outputted, thereby the selected data lines D, /D are also separated from the sense amplifier section 12a, and the sense amplifier section 12a is activated to start amplification operation of data.
