The invention relates to devices and methods for operating one or several gas-discharge lamps or metal-vapour lamps. A rectified multi-phase voltage is applied directly from an electronic ballast without intermediate active components, in order to achieve an efficient operation of the gas discharge lamp, with little perturbing radiation, whereby the power factor is, in principle, greater than 0.95.
