PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gold plating liquid which has performance comparable to a cyanogen based gold plating liquid and also is low in toxicity and stable, and can form a gold plating film in which gold crystal grain sizes are extremely fine and grain boundaries are dense. SOLUTION: The gold plating liquid comprises iodide ions, gold iodide complex ions, a nonaqueous solvent and a water-soluble polymer. The gold plating method uses the gold plating liquid.
