PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a color conversion apparatus and a color conversion method, capable of adjusting the lightness and saturation of input color data, corresponding to the color reproduction range of an image reproducing apparatus. SOLUTION: In the color conversion apparatus and the color conversion method, characteristic information, representing the intensity of lightness and/or saturation of first color data representing a color image, is acquired; the value of hue region data effective for a specific hue component in a color image represented by the first color data is adjusted, on the basis of a plurality of conversion characteristics set for each range of the value of the characteristic information, thereby acquiring new hue region data; and a matrix computation is performed using the new hue region data as an operation element, thereby calculating the correcting quantity for independently correcting at least any one of the hue, lightness and saturation of the first color data for each hue component.
