PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To promptly shift to read or write operation after seek operation is finished when clock to a formatter section or an ECC section is stopped. SOLUTION: During seek operation, formatter section clock 20 and ECC section clock 21 are stopped by a clock stop gate 9 during seek operation. Furthermore, they are also stopped during standby for a command from a host. When a firmware sets the time made by subtracting time necessary for clock start/restart from time necessary for seek to a timer 8 provided in HDC2, and after a timer 9 has been up, the formatter section clock 20 and the ECC section clock 21 are restarted by the clock stop gate 9.
