PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processor, capable of rapidly and accurately detecting the inclination of a document image read from an inclined original document, even if it is an image consisting of alphabet such as Roman character, and also to provide an image processing method, a program and a storage medium therefor. SOLUTION: The document image is input to the image processor and stored in a RAM 103 or the like. The direction of a character string contained in the document image is determined by control of a CPU 101, and a set of partial areas is arranged in this direction. Based on the density histogram within the partial areas, the determination is made whether the character string is alphabet such as Roman character or not. When the character string is determined to be an alphabetic character string, a reference line is set to detect the inclination of the document image. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
