PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a portable power tool having excellent operability and high design performance. SOLUTION: In an impact driver (portable tool) 1, a motor, a transmission mechanism part for transmitting a driving force of the motor, and an anvil (tip end tool holding part) 16 where the driving force of the motor is transmitted by the transmission mechanism part are housed inside a body part 2A of a housing 2 having an approximately elliptical cylindrical body part 2A and a handle part 2B which is consecutively provided on the body part 2A so as to form a T shape at the side view, a switch for controlling power supply is housed inside the handle part 2B, the anvil 16 is partially projected from the tip end of the body part 2A of the housing 2 to the forward, and the body part 2A is formed to be the tapered shape where an outside diameter is reduced toward the tip end part projecting of the anvil 16, a projecting part 22 is provided on the side surface of the front surface to the tip end part of the body part 2A, and an elliptical recessed part 22a having the vertical length of at least 13 mm is formed at the central part of the projecting part 22.
