The emission control device has a housing, in which a particle filter body (1) formed of sintered metal filter plates (2) is arranged for filtering the exhaust gas of the internal combustion engine. The particle filter body has an inlet aperture (3) with an entry zone for exhaust gas and an outlet (4) with discharge area for filtered exhaust gas. Inflow covers (5a,5b) are arranged in the housing through which exhaust gas flows into the housing. The inlet aperture of the particle filter body is elongately formed.
