A method for producing a carotenoid using Paracoccus sp. RF1 strain is provided to produce the carotenoid with high yield, which contains an astaxanthin. A Paracoccus sp. RF1 (KCTC 11222BP) produces a carotenoid with high efficiency. A method for manufacturing the Paracoccus sp. RF1 (KCTC 11222BP) comprises: a step of irradiating to Paracoccus MBICO1143 strain to make mutation; and a step of culturing the mutated strain in medium at 20-30 °C for three to five days and screening mutant whose content increases. The radiation is gamma ray which is emitted from radioactive isotope of Co-60, Kr-85, Sr-90 or Cs-137. A method for producing the carotenoid containing astaxanthin comprises: a step of culturing the Paracoccus sp. RF1 (KCTC 11222BP) in medium; a step of centrifuging the medium and collecting supernatant; and a step of performing column chromatography with the supernatant to isolate the carotenoid.
