PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a small-sized and simple optical phase modulator for modulating the phase of the light guided in an optical waveguide.SOLUTION: The optical phase modulator has a directional coupler type waveguide structure formed of a linear optical waveguide and an electric field absorption type light intensity modulator adjacent to the optical waveguide.
