The device has an elastic unit (16) i.e. spring, assembled inside a lock case (10) and against a dead bolt (14). A controllable retaining unit maintains the bolt in a retracted position. A magnetic element (34) is located inside the lock case and integrated to the retaining unit. Another magnetic element (46) is located inside a strike case (12) mounted in a rabbet. The magnetic elements are attracted with each other for controlling the retaining unit to release the bolt when the door closes an opening, so that the elastic unit expands and drives the bolt inside the strike case.
