1,081,192. Piezoelectric resonators. SECRETARY OF THE ARMY, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. May 4, 1965 [May 4, 1964], No. 18687/65. Heading H1E. A piezoelectric resonator, e.g. a circular quartz AT or BT-cut thickness-shear resonator, is attached to annealed gold supporting leads 32 by means of gold rivets 24, 28. Holes are drilled for the rivets near the periphery of the crystal and a plated area 20 of e.g. gold applied around each hole on opposite major faces. The heads of the rivets lie against the plated areas, the shanks being provided with gold washers 26 having radial grooves 31. The gold wire 32 is attached to the shanks of the rivets by heat and pressure which distorts the end of the shanks and compresses the washers. Air escapes from the holes through grooves 31. The remote ends of the gold wires are attached to a pair of molybdenum pins extending through the base of a crystal holder. The crystal plate is provided with central electrodes having radial extensions which cover the heads of the rivets. |
