<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the amount of a catalyst to be used for an air electrode reaction layer. <P>SOLUTION: A membrane electrode assembly for a fuel cell has an electrolyte membrane held between an air electrode and a hydrogen electrode. The air electrode has the reaction layer and a diffusion layer contacting the electrolyte membrane, and the reaction layer has a first layer contacting the electrolyte membrane and a second layer contacting the diffusion layer into which a porous material is dispersed. The catalyst concentration of the first layer is higher than the catalyst concentration of the second layer, and the pore volume of the whole reaction layer is ≤3 cm<SP>3</SP>/m<SP>2</SP>. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT |
