<p>Vessels, tubes, apparatus or components thereof, made of glass, ceramics or synthetic resins are protected and insulated by covering them with a self-sealing silicone rubber. Suitable silicones are the rubbers described in Specifications 859,284, 868,041, 905,394, 917,226 and 921,964, the pressure-sensitive silicone rubber tapes described in Specification 792,041, and the bouncing putties described in Specification 605,218 and German Specifications 954,446, 1,016,870 and 1,045,092. The silicone may be applied in the form of a solution or dispersion, as by brushing or spraying, to provide one or more coverings between which reinforcing or heating wires may, if desired, be embedded. The coverings or wrappings may finally be covered with a foamed layer of natural rubber or polyurethane.</p> |
