A sealed magnetic change-over contact unit comprises a fixed magnetic contact member 11 extending from one end of a glass or plastic envelope and a fixed contact member 12 carrying a permanent magnet 14 and a movable contact member 13 carrying an armature 15 extending from its other end. The armature 15 is mounted on a spring 16 secured to contact member 13 and is biased into engagement with the fixed contact member 12 by the permanent magnet. When a coil 17 is energized to polarize the armature in the same direction as the permanent magnet, the armature is repelled from member 12 into engagement with member 13. In an alternative arrangement the magnetic contact member 11 has a horizontal extension which terminates above the permanent magnet and ensures a rapid separation of armature and permanent magnet. In another embodiment a plurality of contact sets like the one described above are enclosed in a single tube. The tubes may be filled with inert gas. The armature may be formed as part of a magnetic reed. |
