The oxygen blowing process for steel production from pig iron, e.g. in a top blown converter, is monitored and automatically regulated by an oxygen distribution parameter (equal to the ratio of the carbon oxidation rate to the pressurized oxygen flow) continuously calculated from the pressurized oxygen flow and waste gas flow values as well as the CO2, CO, O2 and H2 contents in the waste gas, which are continuously measured and transmitted to an electronic computer, and compared with a set value of the parameter, the oxygen flow-rate, the level of the oxygen blowing lance and/or the addition of flux to the bath being adjusted automatically until the measured and set values agree. The set value may be adjusted manually or by feeding a function varying with the oxygen blowing time into the computer; this function may be corrected by further measured values e.g. bath temperature, converter noise intensity, conductivity between lance and bath, the rate of carbon combustion and the total of carbon burnt in the bath. |
