A grinding wheel has a facing of abrasive material and a resin binder, and a centre mounting of a volatiless resin. Several specific examples of the volatiless resin are described, e.g. 25 grams of powdered anhydride catalyst are mixed with 100 grams of liquid epoxy resin and 85 grams of the mixture is blended with 55 grams of aluminium powder. Alternatively, a liquid aliphatic amine hardener may be used. In a further example 0.68 grams of benzoyl peroxide are mixed with 0.30 pounds of polyester resin and 3 pounds of aluminium powder are added to the mix. The filler may also be powdered iron, tin, lead or low density silica. Asbestos fibres or wire may also be added as reinforcement. The abrasive facing may be diamond grit bound by a phenol formaldehyde resin. Specification 964,805 is referred to. |
