A stator cooling tube for a generator is formed of flexible or semi-rigid plastics material, such as polytetrafluorethylene or polyvinylchloride, and has an annular cross-section, the inner periphery of which is a circle and the outer periphery of which is a triangle, preferably an equilateral triangle, having convexly-curved sides. Said tube in use is bent about an axis parallel to a line joining two of the corners or lobes 11 and 12 with the two lobes or corners positioned on the inside of the bend. A stator cooling tube of this construction which is generally subjected to external gas pressure, e.g. hydrogen pressure, is said to prevent tube collapse in simple two node failure, that is failure where two diametral opposite portions of the tube move outwards whilst the intervening tube portions flatten out. |
