The supply of fuel at a pressure dependent upon speed to the injection pump cylinder 12 is controlled by a metering valve 27 biased by at least one spring 29, 30 and the pressure acting on its opposite ends. The outlet pressure of the feed pump 22 acts on the inner end of the valve 27 and the pressure in the spring chamber above the valve acts on its outer end. The spring chamber is fed with fuel through the valve restriction 32 and the pressure therein is controllable by an adjustable pressure relief valve 33. The spring 29 has a higher rate than the spring 30, the spring 30 biasing the valve 27 against the pressure acting on its inner end until the plug 28 abuts the adjustable stop 35. The outlet pressure of the feed pump may be controlled by a centrifugally operable valve. |
