Novel compounds of the formula in which R represents a hydrogen atom or an alkyl, hydroxyalkyl, alkoxyalkyl or amino group and R1 represents a hydroxyalkyl, alkoxyalkyl or morpholinopropyl group, the alkyl groups in R and R1 containing from 1 to 4 carbon atoms, are prepared by reacting a 4-halo - 2 - (5 - nitro - 2 - furyl) - quinazoline wth an amine of the formula HNRR1. Antibacterial compositions for oral or topical administration comprise a compound of the Formula I together with a carrier.
