1,111,248. Resistors. NIHON DENSHI KABUSHIKI KAISHA. 8 Dec., 1965 [10 Dec., 1964], No. 52167/65. Heading H1S. Resistor 1 is immersed in oil in a grounded tank 2 and is surrounded, within the tank, by a sleeve 4. An insulating baffle 5, between the resistor and sleeve, may be used to impede the flow of oil set up electrostatically. The sleeve 4 is preferably conductive, and circular in section, and may be surrounded by a further, similar sleeve (15 in Fig. 2, not shown). Sleeve 4 is connected through a potential divider constituted by similar capacitors 6, 7 to the input terminal of the resistor and to the tank and so is at a potential with respect to the tank which is half that of the input terminal. A different division of the potential may be used if need be. The outer sleeve, if any, is at the same potential as the inner one. Alternatively sleeve 4 may be of resistive material and connected at its ends to the input terminal and to the tank. The output lead 14 of the resistor is encased in a conductive shield 8, grounded by connection to the tank. Resistors of this kind are stated to have particular application in negative feedback circuits used to maintain the stability of a high-voltage source, such as is used in an electron microscope or electron diffraction apparatus. |
