1,203,155. Stabilized polyvinyl chloride. ARGUS CHEMICAL CORP. 20 Nov., 1968 [7 Dec., 1967] No. 55039/68. Heading C3P. Polyvinyl chloride resins are stabilized by addition of a liquid stabilizing composition which comprises (a) a diorgano tin mercaptide and (b) an alpha-mercapto carboxylic acid, present in 0.1-15% by weight of (a). The diorgano tin mercaptide contains two alkyl and/ or cyclo alkyl radicals of 3-6 carbon atomsper tin atom and from one to two organic groups, either hydrocarbon or heterocyclic and having 2-30 carbon atoms linked to the remaining two valences of the tin atom through two mercapto sulphur atoms, exemplified compounds being dibutyl tin bis (4-t-butyl thiophenate), dibutyltin di(auryl mercaptide), dibutyltin di(tridecyl mercaptide), dibutyltin di- (dodecyl mercaptide) and trimeric dibutyltin ethylene dimercaptide terminated by dodecyl mercaptide groups. Component (b) of the stabilizer has 3-30 carbon atoms and is exemplified by thiolactic acid and alpha mercaptolauric acid. Polyvinyl chloride homopolymers are stabilized with the exemplified components (a) and (b), the mixtures optionally containing mineral oil stearic acid, isooctylepoxy stearate, dioctylphthalate and ABS impact modifier. |
