An electrical connector for flat cable comprises an insulating block formed with a slot on face 11 for receiving the cable and with passageways 8 ektending between a face 10 and the slot, and having a forward portion to recieve electrical contacts (18, Fig. 5, not shown) and a ramp portion 14 to guide the conductive cores of the cable to contact electrical contacts 18, the ramp portions 14 of adjacent passageways being inclined in the opposite directions. The block consists of two complementary slabs as shown in Fig. 2 and having walls 9 separating the passageways, the free edge of the walls being recessed adjacent one of the opposed sides and inclined downwardly towards the other. A projection 16 and a complementary recess 17 are provided on the slabs for strain relief of the cable. In the embodiment shown in Fig. 7, recesses 26, 27<SP>1</SP> are arranged to receive an insert of two abutted identical slabs 28, 28<SP>1</SP> each formed on one face with open-seamed passageways 29, 29<SP>1</SP> to complement the passageways 26 of the recess. In the embodiment shown in Fig. 13, the block includes an integral cable-receiving extension 51 and a strain relief member 45 engageable with the block. Cable receiving passageways 53 have planar and ramp portions 54, 55 and the strain relief member has a slot 60 and a barb 61 to receive and engage a cable 19. The bared ends of the conductive cores of the cables are inclined along the ramp portions and may be soldered or crimped to the contact elements. |
