An electrical connector assembly comprises two insulating blocks 1, 2 having apertures 3, 4 housing identical sheet metal contacts 9, 10, each contact including a contact spring arm 21 bowed at 22 and curved at its end 23 to form a contact surface 23<SP>1</SP> so that when the contacts are mated the bowed portions 22 engage and urge the contact surfaces 23<SP>1</SP> of each contact arm against counter-contact surfaces 19 of the mating contact. The spring arm 21 and a locking spring arm 24 extend from opposite side walls of a U-shaped main portion 18 adjacent crimping ferules 11. The contacts are retained in the block apertures by engagement of the latching end 25 of the locking arm 24 and a U-shaped portion 12 with shoulders 7, 8, 8<SP>1</SP> in the apertures. Preferably the contact arm 21 is gold plated and the latch 25 of the locking arm 24 is chamfered to act as a guide for the leading end 23 of the mating contact. The contacts 10 in one block 2 may be recessed below the front face 5 by providing projections 6 on the block between contact apertures, and more than one bowed portion 22 may be provided. |
