1292347 Throttle valves for shock absorbers L F SCHMID 29 Dec 1969 [30 Dec 1968] 63077/69 Heading F2S [Also in Division G3] Changes in viscosity of the damping liquid in a shock absorber as a result of variations in temperature are compensated for by making the response of a valve in the shock absorber temperature dependent. The valve has resilient valve plates 9, 10 and 11 which co-operate with bores 3 in a member 2 (e.g. a piston) and are acted upon by a moulded body 18 of an elastically deformable material. The left-hand side of the Figure shows the valve when the temperature of the damping liquid is - 30‹ C., and the right-hand side + 160‹ C. The moulded body may be supported with freedom to expand both axially and radially (as shown) or merely axially (Figs. 1 and 2, not shown). The moulded body is preferably annular and has a higher coefficient of thermal expansion than its support 19. |
