(1) Process for prepg. compds. (I):- and their alk. metal salts, where R'=2-tetrahydrofuryl or 2-tetrahydropyranyl and R=Me, CF3 or halogen by reacting a mercuric or bis-trimethylsilyl deriv. of an appropriate 5-R-uracil with 2-chloro-tetrahydro-furan- or -pyran. (2) Compds. (Ia):- where R = Me, CF3 or halogen (3) Compds. (Ib):- where R = CF3, F or Cl (4) Alkali metal salts of (Ia) and (Ib). Cytostatic agents which are less toxic than the corresponding N-unsubstituted-5-R-uracils.
