1283947 Pipe couplings AEROQUIP AG 4 Nov 1969 [21 Nov 1968] 54087/69 Heading F2G In a quick-acting pipe whose coupling, a male element 12 is located inside the bore of a female element 13 and locked by radially movable detents 17 held in position by a sleeve 21 slidable on an inner part 24 of the female element which has an outer part 23 fixed to a rigid support 45 and having a part 35 rigidly connected to a fluid line 46. To insert the male element 1, 2, the sleeve 21, Fig. 2, is manually retracted against the action of a spring 39, the male element is inserted, and the sleeve is released, locking the detents 17. Alternatively, Fig. 5, the separate locking sleeve is replaced by a part 121 fixed to the outer part 104 of the female element. An overcentre frusto-conical spring steel washer 123 is provided between the inner and outer parts 104, 105 of the female component. On inserting the male element 102, the inner part 105 is pushed to the left, the sleeve 121 locking the detents 117 in position and the washer 123 locking the outer part. To release the coupling, the male member is pulled to the right, initially pulling the inner part of the female element to the right until the detents are released in the expanded bore of the sleeve, thus releasing the male element. The inner part of the female element and the male element have valves which are opened by the connection of the elements. A chamber 29, Fig. 2, or 107, Fig. 5, connected to the fluid line compensates for fluid pressure on a seal 26, Fig. 2, or 106, Fig. 5, tending to open the coupling. |
