1,258,987. Radial cylinder pump or motor. J. TOBIAS. Sept.8, 1969 [Jan.30, 1969], No.44375/69. Heading F1A. A radial cylinder pump or motor comprises pistons 34, provided with piston rings 67, Fig.3, and reciprocable in cylinders 32 in a rotary cylinder block 11, and an adjustable eccentrically mounted rotary reaction ring 23 connected to the pistons through parallel links 42a, 42b which keep the piston axes in alignment with the axes of their associated cylinders. The inner ends of the links 42a, 426 are mounted on bearing shafts 44 on the reaction ring 23, and the shafts 44 may be arranged to carry the trailing link of one piston and the leading link of the following piston. The pistons each comprise a piston rod 35<SP>1</SP>, Fig.3, screwed to a crosshead 50 on which is pivoted the links 42a, 42b, and which carries a tubular member 57 surrounding the associated cylinder, and provided with a pair of parallel plane surfaces 59, 60 which co-operate through rollers 62, 61, with plane surfaces 55, 54 on the cylinder to take up any lateral thrusts on the piston. The cylinder block 11 is mounted for rotation on a pintle shaft which defines high and low-pressure distribution chambers 27, 28 separated by lands 29, 30 which are sufficiently large to instantaneously close the ends 33 of the cylinders 32. Shallow longitudinal grooves G, Fig.3, help to prevent leakage across the surface of the lands. |
