A linear polycarbonamide (P) contains at least 5% mole repeating units (d) The chain components (Q) all have terminal amide-forming gps. joined by a divalent hydrocarbon radical having #4C atoms. Units (d) maybe 1,4- or 1,3-cyclohexane-bis-(ethylamine); they may be in the cis and/or trans form. (P) may be derived from equimolar proportions of H 2 N-B-NH 2 and (T) HOOC-A-COOH. A may be naphthylene, anthrylene, -(CH 2 )4-20 or the above radicals in which one or more H- atoms are replaced by C 1 -C 4 alkyl, e.g. (k) where m is 0-4, is a cyclohexane or benzene ring, and Z is oxygen or (CH 2 ) m .(T) may also be terephthalic or phenylindene dicarboxylic acid. (Q) may also include or NH 2 -(CH 2 ) n -COOH, where n=4-14. (P) may be prepared by heating the components to 180-300‹ C. until intrinsic viscosity #0À4, e.g. at pressure below, equal to, or above atmospheric. Preferably the reaction is performed in the absence of O 2 , e.g. in N 2 . Also present may be stabilizers, pigments, anti-static agents, plasticizers, dyeability-altering additions, or delustrants. (P) may be melt-spun or used for moulding or coating. |
