<p>Optical filters, windscreens, etc. are made by vacuum depositing a layer of transparent material, e.g. gold, silver or copper, which reflects most of the infrared element of the light, onto glass or a glass-like substance. First, a layer of chromium is deposited as an adhesive medium for the reflecting layer onto which another layer of chromium is deposited, followed by a protective layer of glass or quartz.</p> |
