[Also in Divisions B3 and F2] Tool for screwing a nut on a bolt and deforming the nut to lock it on the bolt, comprising a deforming tool 21 within a nut-engaging wrench 20; an axially slidable sleeve 16 carrying the wrench; a spindle 14 for rotating the wrench, driven by a pneumatic motor in the handle of the tool; and an axially slidable sleeve 25 formed with a piston 24. Three equi-angularly spaced projections are formed on the deforming tool for indenting the end face of the nut. In use, after applying a predetermined torque to the nut, compressed air is admitted into a chamber 22, and, on leakage past a sealing edge 29, drives the piston forwards, whereby the end 37 of sleeve 25 strikes the sleeve 16 to drive the sleeve and wrench forwards, thereby indenting the end face of the nut with the deforming tool. The predetermined torque is set with a slipping clutch. |
